Our Program: Details and History
In the late 1970s, a group of individuals in West Germany felt there was a need to help foreigners learn about and participate in German society. They decided to set up an exchange program that would enable people from different cultures to come to Germany for a year, live with a host family, and attend school. The first CrossCulture Program (CCP) took place in 1980, with just six participants.
Since then, the program has grown steadily, and today there are around 1,000 participants from over 60 countries taking part each year. The program is open to people between the ages of 18 and 30 who have completed high school. Participants must have a good knowledge of English or German (depending on which country they are coming from) and be motivated to learn about other cultures.
During their time on the program, participants live with carefully selected host families and attend language classes at their local Goethe-Institut branch. They also complete an internship related to their field of study or interest, which gives them valuable insight into German culture and working life. In addition, they take part in various cultural and social activities organized by the CCP team.
The CrossCulture Program is a great way to learn about German culture and society, as well as other cultures from around the world. It provides participants with skills and experiences that will benefit them throughout their lives.
